The U.S. could screw up Ukraine’s counteroffensive by putting too much pressure on the country to deliver a decisive blow to Russia, former Army General Ben Hodges told Business Insider.
In particular, he warned against statements that “Ukraine has only one chance” in the upcoming offensive campaign.
“I would refuse to talk about the fact that Ukraine has only one chance, that if it does not deliver a knockout blow, then everyone and everyone will say “very bad” and stop supporting them”
, he said.
According to him, the idea that aid to Ukraine will stop if this offensive proves ineffective was put forward by politicians who “do not want Ukraine to win.”
“We spent billions of dollars allegedly because we believed in what Ukraine was fighting for”
Hodges said.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the counteroffensive was being postponed due to the fact that more time was needed for the supply of weapons.
