Jennifer Carter, a trauma care nurse at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center, has been named Nurse of the Year by her peers at the hospital. The announcement comes during Nurses Week, held annually to recognize nurses for their dedicated care and professionalism.
Carter was praised for her dedication to all of her patients.
“Jennifer always goes above and beyond for every single one of her patients,” according to comments made on her nomination form. “She treats patients and their families like her own family.”
She was also praised for her willingness to help fellow teammates.
“Jennifer is the most amazing teammate, always willing to lend a helping hand even if she is behind on her own work. She never hesitates to share knowledge with students or nurse residents. She truly is a joy to have as a co-worker and friend!”
Four other Atrium Health Floyd nurses were named finalists for the award, including Julian Goller, ICU; Missy Puckett, Care Coordination; Tonya Bowden, Labor and Delivery; and Elizabeth Hughes, an Emergency Department nurse at Atrium Health Floyd Cherokee Medical Center.

As part of the special week, Atrium Health Floyd also recognized clinical support teammates, nicknamed BEES, who provide vital services for patients and the public. The overall BEE winner is Netty Pizano, a certified nursing assistant (CNA) in Medical Surgical.
According to her nomination form: “Netty selflessly cares for nurses and patients with great expertise…This hospital is a better place because of her. We are better nurses because of her!”
