Atrium Health Floyd Names Nurse of the Year


Jennifer Carter, a trauma care nurse at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center, has been named Nurse of the Year by her peers at the hospital. The announcement comes during Nurses Week, held annually to recognize nurses for their dedicated care and professionalism.

Carter was praised for her dedication to all of her patients.

“Jennifer always goes above and beyond for every single one of her patients,” according to comments made on her nomination form. “She treats patients and their families like her own family.”

She was also praised for her willingness to help fellow teammates.

 “Jennifer is the most amazing teammate, always willing to lend a helping hand even if she is behind on her own work. She never hesitates to share knowledge with students or nurse residents. She truly is a joy to have as a co-worker and friend!”

Four other Atrium Health Floyd nurses were named finalists for the award, including Julian Goller, ICU; Missy Puckett, Care Coordination; Tonya Bowden, Labor and Delivery; and Elizabeth Hughes, an Emergency Department nurse at Atrium Health Floyd Cherokee Medical Center.

Other nominees include, Pam Arp, Surgical Specialties; Kristina Cavitt, Labor and Delivery; Kevin Couch; Denials Management; Rocio Cruz, Catheterization Lab; Veronica Escutia, Emergency Care Center; Avery Floyd, NICU; Maya Foster; Urgent Care and Primary Care; Savanna Garrett, Orthopedics; Carla Hames, Oncology; Karen Hardin, Outpatient Surgery; Katie Hardy; Emergency Care Center; Hannah Hood, Emergency Care Center; Patti Kean, Physician Liaison; Mindy Lane; Labor and Delivery; Cindy Mills, NICU; Tina Minter, Cardiac Care; Heather Murphy; Medical Surgical; Rhiannon Nichols, Medical Surgical; Allison Sellman, Neurology; Amber Trotter, Physician Liaison; and Johnny Walker, Orthopedics.

As part of the special week, Atrium Health Floyd also recognized clinical support teammates, nicknamed BEES, who provide vital services for patients and the public. The overall BEE winner is Netty Pizano, a certified nursing assistant (CNA) in Medical Surgical.

According to her nomination form: “Netty selflessly cares for nurses and patients with great expertise…This hospital is a better place because of her. We are better nurses because of her!”

Other BEE finalists include Amber Neese, Labor and Delivery unit secretary; Brady Poole ; Emergency Care Center nurse technician; Anslee Stringer, Rehabilitation Services CNA and Ja’nisa Thompson, ICU CNA.

Other nominees include Tabitha Barone; Inpatient Wound Care office manager; Crystal Crabtree, NICU CNA; Mandy Durham; Cardiac Stepdown unit secretary; Daisy Guzman, Cardiac Stepdown CNA; Melissa Hudson, Floyd physical therapist; Munir Khatib, Inpatient Surgery transporter; Jason Jordan, Director of Pastoral Care; Martique London, housekeeper; Carol Marshall, Behavioral Health mental health technician; Malik McKay, Respiratory therapy CNA; Anna Grace Whitt, Pediatrics nurse technician and Kristian Winkles, Emergency Care Center nurse technician.
